APEX Office Clean

About Apex Office Clean

Locally owned, actually local. A cleaning company built on showing up and doing the work right.

How We Started

Carlos Mendez spent eight years working for a national cleaning franchise. He started as a crew member, became a supervisor, and eventually ran operations for the Austin territory. He was good at it — the numbers looked fine on corporate's spreadsheets. But the complaints kept coming.

Clients couldn't reach a human when something went wrong. Substitute crews showed up without knowing the building layout. Quality inspections were announced a week in advance, so managers scrambled to make everything look good for the one day it mattered. Carlos saw the same pattern repeat: great sales pitch, mediocre delivery, high turnover, frustrated clients.

In 2019, he left and started Apex Office Clean with one van, two employees, and a simple idea: what if a cleaning company just did what it promised?

The first client was a small law firm downtown. They'd been through three cleaning companies in two years. Carlos cleaned the office himself for the first month, then slowly brought on a crew as the client roster grew. Word spread. Another law firm called. Then a medical office. Then a tech startup that needed daily service.

By 2021, Apex had grown to eight employees and two vans. By 2024, we hit twelve team members and three vans. We've never had a round of layoffs, never taken on debt, and never promised something we couldn't deliver.

What We Believe

Our mission isn't complicated. We don't have a vision statement framed in the break room. We have three rules:

Show Up On Time

It sounds basic, but in the cleaning industry, reliability is surprisingly rare. We commit to specific arrival windows and we hit them. If a crew is running late due to traffic or an unexpected issue at another job, we call the client and let them know. Communication beats silence every time.

Do the Work Properly

Every visit follows our 47-point checklist. No shortcuts because it's Friday, no skipping the baseboards because nobody checks them. Supervisors do random inspections weekly, not just when there's a complaint. We catch our own mistakes before clients do.

Communicate When Something's Wrong

If we break something, we tell you. If a crew member calls in sick and we're short-staffed, we tell you. If we notice a maintenance issue in your building (leaky faucet, burned-out light, weird smell from the vent), we tell you. We'd rather over-communicate than leave you wondering.

Where We Work

We're based at 1100 Congress Ave in downtown Austin. Our service radius covers the greater Austin metro area. If you're not sure whether your office is in range, just call and ask.

Austin City Limits

Our core service area. Downtown, East Austin, South Austin, North Austin, The Domain, Mueller Development, Riverside, and everything in between. If your office has an Austin address, we clean it.

Cedar Park & Round Rock

Williamson County's business corridor has grown significantly, and we've grown with it. We serve office parks along 620, I-35, and the Toll roads. Travel time is factored into pricing for these areas.

Pflugerville

The Pflugerville business district and surrounding areas are within our service radius. Several of our post-construction clients have been new builds in this fast-growing area.

Our Fleet & Equipment

We own everything we use. No rentals, no personal vehicles, no showing up with whatever was on sale at the hardware store.

Three Branded Vans

All three of our service vans are branded with the Apex Office Clean logo, wrapped in our green and white color scheme. They're equipped with GPS tracking so our office knows where crews are at all times. Each van carries a complete set of equipment, supplies, and backup products so crews don't run out of anything mid-job.

Vans are cleaned and restocked every morning before crews head out. Equipment is inspected weekly and replaced on a preventive maintenance schedule. A broken vacuum doesn't become your problem — we fix it before it fails.

Commercial-Grade Equipment

Our equipment inventory includes: HEPA-filter backpack vacuums (Nilfisk GD5), upright vacuums for carpeted areas, auto-scrubbers for large hard floors, orbital floor machines for VCT refinishing, carpet extractors for deep cleaning, and water-fed pole systems for window cleaning.

We don't use residential equipment on commercial jobs. The vacuums you buy at a big-box store aren't designed to run for four hours a day, five days a week. Our commercial equipment is built for daily professional use and maintained accordingly.

Company-Owned, Not Borrowed

Some cleaning services show up with whatever their employees happened to bring from home. Not us. Every piece of equipment, every bottle of cleaning solution, every microfiber cloth belongs to Apex Office Clean. We control the quality because we control the tools.

This also means our staff aren't paying out of pocket for supplies, which is surprisingly common in the cleaning industry. We provide everything our crews need to do their job properly.

GPS Tracking

All vans have GPS tracking for logistics and client security. We know when crews arrive at your building and when they leave. This data helps us optimize routes, verify service times, and provide documentation if a client ever has a question about whether a visit occurred.

About Carlos Mendez

Carlos grew up in San Antonio and moved to Austin in 2009. He started in the cleaning industry because it was honest work that paid the bills, but he stayed because he saw an opportunity to build something better than what existed.

He's still involved in day-to-day operations. He answers the phone. He does walkthroughs for new clients. He checks on jobs randomly, just to see how things look. He knows every employee by name and their family situations. When a client has a problem, they talk to Carlos directly — not a customer service line, not an account manager, the actual owner.

Outside of work, Carlos is involved with the Austin Chamber of Commerce and mentors other small business owners through SCORE. He lives in South Austin with his family and claims to have tried every breakfast taco within a 10-mile radius of downtown.

Why Local Matters

Austin has changed a lot in the last decade. So has the cleaning industry. Here's why we think local still matters:

We Know Austin

We know which downtown buildings have difficult loading docks. We know that 35 is a parking lot at 5 PM and plan our routes accordingly. We know that allergy season in Austin means extra dusting in March and April. A national call center doesn't know any of this.

We Hire Local

Our employees live in Austin, Cedar Park, Round Rock, and Pflugerville. They spend their paychecks here. They care about doing a good job because they might run into you at H-E-B. That's not something you get from a subcontractor who drives in from two counties away.

Accountability

When something goes wrong, you call and Carlos answers. There's no escalation process, no ticket number, no "your call is important to us." Just a person who owns the business and cares whether you're happy. That's the advantage of being small enough to be accountable.

We're Not Going Anywhere

National chains come and go. They acquire territories, rebrand, sell off underperforming markets, and reshuffle management. We've been here since 2019, and we're planning to be here for decades. Your office won't get a new account manager every six months because someone in corporate decided to reorganize.

Want to Meet in Person?

Carlos still does most walkthroughs personally. If you're considering a new cleaning service, he'd welcome the chance to show you what we do differently.
